Exercise Respecting Valour will take place in April 2004 to mark the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the award of the first Victoria Cross to the Royal Marines. Additionally, five of the Victoria Crosses were awarded in the month of April.

From the Oxford English Dictionary

This site is not only dedicated to those who have been awarded the Victoria Cross whilst in the service of the Royal Marines, but also to the dedication of four serving Royal Marines who aim to preside over the grave sides of the ten Royal Marines who were awarded the VC, a medal known the World over as being for Valour.

This TEAM aims to visit the ten graves which are spread around the World to pay the respects of a grateful Corps, by laying wreaths and to ensure the up-keep of the graves. The trip will see the team cross continents to visit each grave.

'Why?' is a question many will ask.
This it has to be said is a major part of the history of the Royal Marines, something all recruits are taught and provides a sense of pride within the Royal Marines. The fact these men gave so much is deserving of a tribute from those both serving and those who have had the honour to serve within one of the Worlds most elite fighting forces. There are many tributes paid throughout the UK in such places as CTC and the Royal Marines Museum, but the aim of this expedition is to pay respects and ensure that the upkeep of the graves can continue.

The team aim to provide nearly half the money required for the expedition themselves, though I hope that the pride in what they are setting out to achieve will ensure that the trip is fully funded without the need for this.

They need to raise £20,000 to complete the expedition, not a fantastic figure and not a great deal of money for what is a great event.

So we now need your help, whether through personal or corporate sponsorship, you will get a mention for your donation. If you would like to help please forward any donation, no matter how small to the address which can be found here Contact Page.
